Pro Dive Hosts European Our World Underwater Scholarship Winner
Pro Dive was very honored to have been chosen to provide Instructor Development Training for scholarship winners. Each Rolex Scholarship provides a hands-on introduction to underwater and other aquatic-related endeavors for a young person considering a career in an underwater-related discipline. One scholar is selected from each of the three regions of North America, Europe, and Australasia, and each scholar spends approximately one year working side by side with current leaders in underwater fields. Each scholar travels primarily within his or her region, but may have opportunities throughout the underwater world. The range of experiences may include active participation in field studies, underwater research, scientific expeditions, laboratory assignments, equipment testing and design, photographic instruction, and other specialized assignments.
21 year old Filip Wolski was born in the seaport city of Gdansk. Since early childhood he was keenly interested in science and, at age 10, was part of a team who qualifying in the International Finals of the ‘Odyssey of the Mind’ – a competition of creative thinking, finishing in third place. In High School Filip developed an interest in computer programming, leading to his four time selection to the Polish National Team for International Olympiad in Informatics, eventually winning the competition in Mexico in 2006. It was, however, when Filip began his studies at the University of Warsaw that saw the opportunity to pursue diving. Still highly interested in computer programming Filip joined with two other students to form a team that entered and won on two separate occasions the ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest in Tokyo.
This past weekend, Filip successfully passed the PADI IE and is now among the 3000 alumni Instructors of Pro Dive. Filip’s dream is to make a significant contribution to diver safety by re-writing decompression schedules and designing better and more effective dive computer software.

Anticipated return is Nov 7; in the interim, we continue to dive out of Pompano, courtesy of our good friends and alumni with Scuba Tyme and Parrot Island Scuba. Call the shop for reservations and we look forward to seeing you back on the PD II very soon!
Reef Check
Pro Dive recently hosted more than twenty students and faculty members of the Marine Biology program at Florida Keys Community College, who made the long drive north from Key West for the three-day Eco Diver Program.
Founded in 1996 by marine ecologist Dr. Gregor Hodgson, the Reef Check Foundation is an international non-profit organization dedicated to conservation of two ecosystems: tropical coral reefs and California rocky reefs. With headquarters in Los Angeles and volunteer teams in more than 80 countries, Reef Check works to create partnerships among community volunteers, government agencies, businesses, universities and other non-profits.
Reef Check goals are to: educate the public about the value of reef ecosystems and the current crisis affecting marine life; to create a global network of volunteer teams trained in Reef Check's scientific methods who regularly monitor and report on reef health; to facilitate collaboration that produces ecologically sound and economically sustainable solutions; and to stimulate local community action to protect remaining pristine reefs and rehabilitate damaged reefs worldwide.
Personally trained by Dr. Hodgson, staff members Nikole Ordway and Brendal Davis recently joined Pro Dive’s own Dr. Alex Brylske, as the only three active Reef Check Course Directors in Florida.
