KUNM Ratings Highest YetRadio station KUNM has hit an audience ratings high, reports the NM Independent. Says the station, the audience grew to 112,800 people per week during fall 2008. KUNM is the largest public radio station in New Mexico and reaches more than half the state. The station broadcasts from Oñate Hall at on the campus of UNM.

Within 24 hours of announcing a free consulting program for any troubled arts organizations in the country, Michael Kaiser, president of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, received 110 emailed pleas from 31 states. The nonprofit advocacy group Americans for the Arts estimates "conservatively," according to a spokeswoman, that the recession could kill off at least 10,000 arts organizations in 2009. U.S. nonprofit theaters are cutting staff and expanding discounts as they anticipate disappointing ticket sales and fundraising, according to a new survey by the Theatre Communications Group. In a January survey of 210 member theaters, the group found 77 percent are “reprojecting” expenses for the coming year. Theaters with a budget of at least $10 million are cutting spending by an average of $750,000. To read more, click the headline.
The National Institute of Flamenco has announced that after 22 years of continuous production, the 2009 Festival Flamenco Internacional de Alburquerque will be cancelled. The organization is regrouping for 2010. To read more, click the headline.

Victoria Hutter, a spokeswoman for the National Endowment for the Arts, which is responsible for distributing the $50 million in stimulus package money, said the agency hopes to post funding guidelines in early or mid-March. What is known so far is that 40 percent of the stimulus money for the arts will go to state arts agencies and the country's six regional arts agencies, including the Western States Arts Federation.
