Stay tuned to interesting events coming up sponsored by Best Start Parenting Center in 2010. There are several events that are in the works that will be of interest to expectant and new parents, as well as professionals. This month our popular Diapering 101 is the topic. Come hear why more and more families are using washable diapers part time to full time. It is easier than you think and can save you thousands of dollars per child.
Our Mother's Teas are fun and informative, offered twice a month, on a Wednesday and Saturday to give more opportunities for busy Moms to attend. No need to find a baby sitter. Baby and preschoolers are invited to attend with Mom. Click Here to see our schedule for 2010.
One of the goals of all the major organizations that support breastfeeding is to increase the duration that mothers breastfeed. Unfortunately almost 40% of the mothers who begin to breastfeed have stopped within six weeks. This shows us that mothers are having trouble getting through the early weeks of breastfeeding, the "learning period." Many do not know where to turn to get the help they need after they leave the hospital. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends breastfeeding for at least one year, and the World Health Organization recommends breastfeeding for at least two years.
Breastfeeding is "dose related." What that means is that a little breastfeeding is good for the baby, but MORE is BETTER! The more breastmilk a baby receives and for a longer time the healthier baby is.
Here is a new research article discussing risk factors for women to wean before six months. Click on the link below to read the abstract.

Testimonial of the Month
"I love the FLIP diapers - they are so trim, affordable, and easy to take care of. My husband even likes them. I also save time because I don't have to stuff liners inside. They are great to use when we go out because they take up so much less room in my diaper bag. Also, I know that we will be able to use them until our daughter is bigger since they are one size fits all. I haven't had any leaks yet, even overnight or with bowel movements. The snaps are also great - some diapers I have with snaps are awkward to close - I feel like I am squishing my daughter's stomach. The FLIP diapers are fantastic - I don't know if I will buy any others!" -- Melissa Tyree
